Fellow Violinist, what should I do?!

Question: Fellow Violinist, what should I do!?
I'm afraid I wont be good enough to get into music school, I have already posted this question in Higher education but thought it might have a better response in this category instead so I appreciate the answers!.
I am planning on attending a local university, Millikin in Decatur IL!. I am planning on being an art major but I also want to play in the Orchestra and obtain a music minor degree!. I've played the violin for quite a while and my teacher is trying his best to get me ready for an audition, likely to be sometime in February, but he honestly thinks it is very short notice!. I don't think that I am good enough personally and I am afraid that if my audition goes bad I won't be able to get into the music program over there or be awarded any type of talent scholarship!. I'm not quite sure what to do!. I could use some advice from music majors, teachers, college advisers, anyone who can help me!. Thanks!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Milikin is not a large school, and I suspect that they are eager for musicians who are non-majors to participate in the music program (to help fill out the orchestra, for example)!. I recognize that this is not the most natural response, but: It's likely that they (the audition committee) will be happy that a non-major is auditioning, and use an altered set of performance criteria for your audition!. In fact, a lot of times there are special scholarships available specifically for non-music majors who still perform in ensembles, and these are not always distributed based on talent!. So, in conclusion: don't worry about it too much!. Prepare for the audition, but you are in demand!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I find this so coincidental because I am going to audition for music schools in February too!. All I can advise you to do is to think positively!. If you believe that you will do bad, you most likely will!. I don't think that you should worry too much about a talent scholarship yet and just concentrate the audition pieces that need to be worked on!. No one is certain that he/'she can get into any music program or obtain scholarships unless you start working on it!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

Have you thought of doing something else besides going to school for a year!?
If you work a job for a year instead of going to school, that should leave you time to practice up a storm!.
If you're not good enough now, betcha you'll be good enough a year from now!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Contact the strings professor at the school and schedule some lessons with him/her!. They will be able to tell you if you are headed in the right direction or not!. It also might be a good idea to see if you can switch over to them now, as most music schools require that you be enrolled in private lessons as long as you are enrolled in orchestra!.
As for a scholarships, I have found that in music they are usually awarded on talent, and are not necessarily need-based!. Just make sure you contact the financial aid office and the head of the art department about any art scholarships available to you, and don't forget to fill out your FASFA!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
