Why isn't the top 40 as important as it used to be?!

Question: Why isn't the top 40 as important as it used to be!?
In the 70s and 80s, the top 40 was a big deal, but now it just doesn't seem so important!. Albums seem to be more important than singles!. Do they still even make singles!?

So what happened!? Why aren't people as fussed with the top 40 and who is No 1 this week than they used to be!?

Is it because of i-tunes and downloading etc!?

Answers:
I think it's because nowadays it is way more easier for a listener to go out and find songs on the internet and not be dependent upon the radio
no one really needs radio anymore to hear the latest and greatest

I also think people are more interested in finding undiscovered music which can easily be done via myspace etc etcWww@Enter-QA@Com

Well the U!.S!. top 40, as far as I've seen, isn't terribly important to anyone except the people who reach it!. I must say, the top 40 does NOT reflect all of the music that is getting put out today - it only reflects the mainstream, what people are willing to listen to instead of going out and trying to find more music!.

Of course singles are more important - in fact I'd say that here, that's backwards!. It seems many people push the singles more than the albums!.

Perhaps people aren't interested because even though they listen to the music, they're not especially impressed with it!. I wonder, if they found the good music and started listening to that, and it became more mainstream, do you think they'd pay more attention to the top 40!? Maybe!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

pop music sucks!.
