Ave Maria is probably one of my most favorite songs at the moment, only, I have no idea what its about!. So!.!.!.!.

Rex: The Ave Maria is a setting of the prayer to Mary, mother of Jesus, and the text is largely taken from the New Testament of the Bible!. The full text is as follows:
Hail Mary full of grace
The Lord is with Thee
Blessed art Thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus!.
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and the hour of our death, Amen!.
The first paragraph is taken from Scripture (the greeting to Mary from the Angel Gabriel and her cousin Elizabeth), but the second paragraph is apocryphal (non Scriptural) and was added by the Roman Church well after the closing of the New Testament!. Therefore, many Christians do not use the devotional prayer as it is seen by some as part of the cult of Marianism!. The Eastern Orthodox Church also uses this prayer in its liturgies!.
Nevertheless, it is a beautiful prayer and many composers have set it to music!.
The most famous setting is probably Franz Shuberts setting, often used at weddings, funerals, etc!.
The Bach/Gounod setting is popular as well, and is an overlay of the melody to Bach's Prelude in C Major from his Well Tempered Clavier!.
My favorite setting, however, is the stunning Heinrich Biber (1644-1704) setting for male voices!. I have included a YouTube ref!. below:
