Fuel is such a mainstream song it makes me sick! They are the best because they have, through all of the crap, continued to produce albums and just be an awesome band! also anyone who can put up with Dave Mustaine complaining about songs he said he made I mean JESUS Dave accept the fact you aren't even HALF as good as Metallica and never will be I mean his recent album United Abomination made me sick! Metallica must be considered one of the most well-known metal bands ever, with their work in the 80's in particular receiving accolades as amongst the finest metal works ever recorded!. Formed in 1981 by the duo of James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, their youthful energy quickly gained them an incredible underground following, with their debut Kill 'Em All being one of the most anticipated underground releases of the era!. I have been a fan for a long time bust BEST album for me was Justice for all!.!.!. closely followed by Master of Puppets!. Best song, guitar solo, and air guitar classic for me goes to One!.

There the best because they are original!. They were a great thrash band and could of just kept making albums like their 80s stuff!. But they had the guts to try different things over their career and have been able to stay relevant over 20 years!.

Because they are so loud that the lead guitar player now wears ear plugs at their concerts because he has really bad tinnitus!?!?!?!?!? By the way he supports this by having ear plugs at their concerts!.

A very original band, and have a unique style to them!. you can always hear a song on the radio and say"Hey, Metallica!" My favorite song is a tie between "One", and "Enter Sandman"!. Too close to call!.

The first answer is right in saying Fuel is a classic!. A fine track to kick off an album!. For me their finest album was the Black album, but their finest and most meaningful track, their only number 1 single here in the UK - One, from !.!.!.!.and Justice for All!.

They are one of the earliest thrash bands!. Cliff Burton [RIP] is my favourite bassist and he pretty much created the hardcoreness of Metallica!. I personally only like Metallica up until Master of Puppets [when Cliff died] though!.

Because a combination of legendary vocals, killer drums, insane bass (cliff burton) and paralyzing drums, what's not to love!. THRASH METAL AT ITS BEST!
