I don't know what you mean by "main players", but if you have everyone you need and what to actually make this happen, then you need to figure out where and when everyone can meet on a consistent basis!. It should be at least once per week, preferably two hours or so a pop!. People need to be able to commit to this 100% - treat it like a job, you can't make it, you get fired!. This is the crucial part - to gel as a group you need reliability first and foremost!.
After that, of course, you need material to play!. If you have no idea how to write a song, then start by getting together and brainstorming over a few songs that everyone likes, and start by learning those!. Ideally, you want to have a common theme, a common direction for the band!. Almost inevitably this means that someone is going to have to step up and be leader - make the call what kind of songs the band focuses on, and what creative direction the band ultimately goes on!. It is important to have group harmony, so everyone needs to be able to commit to that direction, also!. Dictators aren't necessarily a good thing, but if 4 people want to go more metal, and 1 person is clamoring for reggae, that person might need to compromise or consider going elsewhere, y'know!?
Playing covers is a good thing to start with, if no one has any previous band experience, since the hard work (so to speak) has already been done!. Everyone needs to be able to commit to practicing outside of band practice on these songs, as well, or progress will be painfully slow!.
