What are some good, dark, classical composers?!

Question: What are some good, dark, classical composers!?
I have always thought classical was really cool but I've never known what to listen too!. And since I'm a metalhead I thought that I should start with the darker composers!. Thanks!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Most classical composers write many different types of music!. For example, Wagner wrote some very dark music, particularily in Tristan and Isolde and in the Ring Cycle, but he also wrote some cheerful music, like the start of Act III of Die Meistersingers!.

Some dark compositions are:

Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique!. The fourth movement is about an execution and ends with the main character's heading being chopped off, and the final movement is a witches Sabbath and it is one of the stranges and most famous compositions ever!. It even has a funeral bell!.

The wolf's glen scene from the opera Der Freischutz!. It anticipated many of the techniques hollywood would use 100 years later and the scene doesn't sound like an opera!. It must have been very scary when it was written!.

Wagner's operas have many dark moments, like the Flight of the Valkyries which was used in the movie Apocalypse Now!. The scene when Siegfried killed Fafner is dramatic and intense, but far too short!.

Holst's The Planets, particularily the movement Mars!.

Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, particularily the Augurs of Spring!.

I liked Threnody for the victims of hiroshima, but most people don't like it because of the strange modern techniques!.

Arnold Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw is very hard to listen to because it is about the Holocaust!. If he had stayed in Germany the composer would have been killed by the Nazis because he was Jewish and because Hitler really hated his music!.

Orff's Carmina Burana!.

Barber's Adagio for Strings!.

The Overture for Mozart's Don Giovanni!.

Mozart's Requiem!.

The first movement of Brahm's First Symphony!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well I'm not that crazy for classical music, but I do love some!.
There's Igor Stravinsky who is very dark!.
There's also Bethoven!.
For most, I don't know much of the classics of classic music,
but the ones that I enjoy most are John Williams, he's famous!.!. he's very cool, he does a lot of movie themes and a lot of great background music, you'll love him!.

And my very first love for music is Vanessa Carlton!. Her music is somewhat classical pop but her music is very dark and very deep with a Vanessa Carlton twist!. If you don't know her except for her one song "Thousand Miles" then I suggest you don't judge her because she's a complete different kind of person!. ;) I promise that!. lol I saw her live, she's absolutely amazing!. You could try listening to something lik Dark Carnival by Vanessa Carlton!. I strongly recommend her!.

Cheers!Www@Enter-QA@Com
