Question: New to hip-hop, what's good to start out on!?
I've been listening to rock most of my life and want to try out something new!. I recently got really into Gnarls Barkley and would like to try out some hip hop!. I've heard Outkast and like him, as well as Black Eyed Peas!. I don't know anything about Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, or anybody else!. I can afford one good album!. What do you recommend as a "starter!." I recommend for you to start with east cost rap, as that is where it all started!.
listen to the following: it's all old stuff (mid 90s early 2000's) but it is worth it!.
de la soul (6 feet high and rising - de la soul is dead and the newer albums)
a tribe called quest (all their stuff is worth it)
Wu tang's first album (enter the 36 chambers)
gang starr (rapper is guru, and dj - producer is Dj premier, unique sound)
Jay-z first album (reasonalbe doubt - excellent)
and Notorious BIG's first album : ready to die
if you want more RNB stuff
mary J blige - what's the 411 the remixes (2nd album)
