Ok for starters ignore the self righteous fool that said give up now, that answer only proves their mental limitation and emotional superficiality!.

Either elctric or accoustic is fine to begin with but to each go different advantages towards your long time return on your efforts!.

The electric uses a thinner gauge string for the most part and as a result many beginners find it easier to manage the various techniques invovled while also incurring less stain and damage to the finger tips and cramping hand muscles!.

The accoustic while physically more difiicult to play is for that very reason going to make you a stronger player down the road!. Not only will your fingers be stronger but the clarity and natural tone and physical vibrations will provide better ear training and sense of "feel" to the sounds you are playing!. You can not fake it on an accoustic guitar!. No hiding your mistakes behind fancy sound effects and volume overdrive!. You either hit it or you don't!.

The other two things going for the accoustic are price and portability!. Buying an electric also means patch cords, an amp and the odd effect pedal or more complex and expensive effects rack!. Then you have to consider carrying all that around if you want to jam with friends!.

An accoustic travels well, be it to the park on an afternoon or the camp ground for a week!. This allows you more time to practice and the ability to experience different physical inspirations from your practice environment!.

You may decide it is not your thing after a while and then the price of the accoustic is less of a let down towards that decision!. Guitar is not for everyone and one of the most complicated instruments to learn when you start getting into musical theory later on!. Most instruments are linear like a piano where each note exists in only one place on the instrument!. This is not true of guitars!.

Perssonally I do my practicing and writing on my accoustic and then pull out the electric to add flavour and power to a solid riff!.

The final decision is of course yours but I hope I have given you the base knowledge you sought in your question!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

electric is easier to learn on, although more expensive!. i play both, and acoustic has an edge to it, i would start with electric, rock style, not metal Www@Enter-QA@Com
