Rock is really too wide spanning a genre to say that one thing can make it or break it!. But to the first answer, you're a rockist tool!. Listen to some Otis Redding, John Coltrane, Robert Johnson, A Tribe Called Quest, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen and Kraftwerk!.
Edit: Tanika: It's true that rap isn't rock, but emo is!. Just because it's not good rock doesn't mean it's not rock!. And pop isn't really a genre; pop soul or pop country isn't rock, but pop rock is certainly a form of rock!. Basically what you're saying is that rock, rap, pop and emo are the only for genres!.
