And there's a song I cannot hear without crying, and nobody's going to know!. Lyle Lovett wrote a song called "This Old Porch"!. It's a song about the South, for Southerners!. Nobody's whining, but we are as deeply misunderstood as we are used to it!. He didn't write it to persuade media or Yankees!. The song never got much notice from anyone but us, and we all know it well!. I didn't start this answer thinking about it at all, but really was enjoying your question - then it hit me!. "This Old Porch" is a love song, to all those folk who do their best in a world that doesn't like them!. Lovett even gets in a quiet shot "!.!.!. at all of those, passers-by, who said we'd never get back up!." A very quiet song, not loud or mean to the carpetbaggers, even to the last line where the gloves come off: "!.!.!. at all of those, sons of bitches, who said we'd never get back up!."
