Question: When you watch a movie and hear an orchestra in the background, who is playing!?
Are certain orchestras or symphonies hand selected to play or do people just audition!? and also How good do you have to be to be able to play in orchestras that you hear in video games and filmsWww@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
It is sometimes an established orchestra such as the London Symphony Orchestra or the Prague Symphony Orchestra!. Sometimes it will be a 'session' orchestra put together of freelance musicians!. One has to be very good indeed to record film and video soundtracks because they are very expensive to pay for (they attract high fees for the musicians because of the money it is possible for the film to make at the box office) and, because of this, the soundtracks have to be recorded as quickly as possible (so as to keep to a minimum the ultra-expensive recording sessions)!. This means the musicians have to be excellent players and also have top sight-reading skills and play sometimes quite difficult at sight!.

'Session' players can earn a LOT of money and so guard their position on the list of players to be asked for such work very closely!. It is very difficult to get on the list for session musicians and it is hardly ever done through auditions (the companies don't have enough time or money to run costly auditions); rather through personal recommendations from other musicians!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

That can be all over the board!. Often in high-dollar productions, a symphony orchestra is employed; the LSO does a lot of this, especially with John Williams scores!. Some lower budget films might well use computer generated orchestras for the incidental music!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
