What is it about psychedelic rock that makes people love them even today?!

Question: What is it about psychedelic rock that makes people love them even today!?
I could have understood why the the hippies loved the psychedelic rock bands such as the Beatles, The Who, and Pink Floyd (Not many people know they started as psychedelic rockers)!. I'm sure the hippies loved it because they were hyped up on pot and they felt the music spoke to them!. I know why I love it, the lyrics are great, and most of it is very upbeat!.

MQ: What about Psychedelic rock has made it survive all these years!.

That I can't really answer!. Because when you listened to Psychedelic music back we were usualy High or LSD, hash, or good old grass!.
When I put a Hendrix, Pink Floyd, or what ever back from that era!. It never seems the same to me as today!. In fact I have a hard time to listen to certain songs because I don't get the same feeling or buzz as I did then!. Even through I still love the music with all my heart that is the way I feel sometimes!.
Journey To The Center Of The Mind by The Amboy Dukes
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by The Beatles
Sing This All Together by The Rolling Stones
Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix
Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun by Pink Floyd

This was a hard question to answer!. As the above were all great There were so many more bands who don't get mention today!. The Beatle, Stones, Hendrix, The Who, Pinky Floyd Led Zeppelin were not the only psychedelic rock bands of that era and sometimes not even the important ones!. Some of them just got into it for a short time and then right out and into other music which went on to become great songs of that era and this!.

Very, very, very good question!. It really made me think!. Thanks Www@Enter-QA@Com

What isn't there to like about psychedelic rock!? The entire genre is amazing! I really identify with this question, (I was born in the early 1990s), and yet, this music still speaks to me as though the music were all made in this decade! Unfortunately, most, if not all, mainstream music sucks nowadays!. Underground rock is a different story!. I love bands like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix Experience, etc!. And I won't lie, trying acid and listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon", (while very stereotypical and stoner-ish), is Amazing!. Never did try the stuff afterwards, though!. Anyway, I get what you're saying though!. I think it has to do with the fact that the quality of the band's music was so much more, well, better!. Peace!

BQ:

very good question!. even though psychedelic is associated with the drug-induced experience, and i'm against drugs or any kind of addictions, i'm still a huge pink floyd fan!. it think most of these bands just happened to click with the drug-induced 1960s era or audience!.

but i think that these bands have not just survived but are considered a watershed even today, because of their honest expression of painful or restless emotions - that in turn, shines out in their lyrics!. they are not chaotic in sound, yet they rouse an emotional restlessness that is soothed by their melody and harmony!. and i think most of us cannot connect to their simple and meaningful lyrics!. it's an odd combination of sad or melancholic lyrics and upbeat music!. i love it!. :)

now i listen to all kinds of genres, but their may be a co-relation between the influence of pink floyd and my liking for bands like kings of convenience, voxtrox, decemberists, the shins, etc!.
