Answers:
go to what ever music store is closest to you!.!.!. talk to the experts there!. they know their stuff well! most times, people employed at those sotres are actually music students in college/university so they are very qualified and knowledgable
id suggest renting whatever bass you choose for a month or two, to see if you wanna stick with it!. youll also have to rent (or buy) an amp as well!.!.!.well i never practiced with my amp!. i only performed with it!. but anyways, you can go for one called a practice amp, its smaller adn not as powerful!. unless your planning to immediatly start doing some big time shows, this will be perfect fine for learning!.
then you can enroll in lessons, which can be pricey!. wherever you buy/rent you bass and amp from may even have their own program for music lessons, so make sure you ask there!.
but anyways, yeah if you dontwant to spend all the extra money on lesson, you can buy tons of good books that come with either audio CDs or even DVDs to help you learn the basics: how to hold the bass, notes, read music, etc!.
and of course, theres always yahoo answers for any other questions you have
im not sure what bass you should buy, id leave that up to the salepeople in the music store!.!.!.like i said, they know the products best!. they understand if you dont wanna go all out and pay 10 million bucks for one right away!.!.!.theyll really show you all your options and tell you everything you wanna know!.
in addition to the amp and bass, you may want a case (hard if you think you might be carrying it outdoors alot or just soft - which is nice and lighter weight- if youre mostly gonna be keeping it inside in your home) a stand can also be useful, fi you dont always wanna put it back into your case!. its nice
then, youll need a patch cord (to plug your bass into the amp)
maybe even a music stand to hold books and sheet music!.!.!.you could maybe get by without that though
get a good book or twp of course
dont worry about buying extra strings right now!.!.!.those metal strings should last a good long time before you have to worry about replacing them!.
yeah!.!.!.thats about it, again, jsut head over to the musci store thats near you and they should really help you out with EVERYTHING!.
have fun! bass is awesomeWww@Enter-QA@Com

It would help if i knew whether it was your first musical instrument, or if you're a piano or guitar player!. If it's your first, you should absolutely get lessons from some1 who can teach you timing, reading music, and rudimentary music theory!. If you are switching from guitar to bass, it's a lot easier b/c the bass guitar strings are the same as the bass strings on a 6-string guitar, only an octave lower : G,D,A & E!.
As for what bass guitar to buy, you'll get tons of answers but what matters is what feels good to you and the only way to find that out is to go to a store that sells a lot of brands, like Guitar Center, and will allow you to try them out!. You will need a least a small practice amp to start just so you can hear it - lower pitched notes need more boost to be heard than higher pitched notes and the sound is more easily absorbed by carpeting, furniture, curtains, etc!.
Good luck & rock on!Www@Enter-QA@Com

First, you need to figure out what bass guitars are available to you and choose from there!. Will your fingers best fit a four string bass!? I started off on a four string, but I intend to trade it in toward a six string!. That's me, though, because that's what fits my fingers and palm the best!.

Once you buy an amp and a bass guitar, I recommend taking lessons!. Don't learn songs, learn technique!. Learn how to strengthen your hands, especially your right fingers!. Never use a pick; it's not as efficient as using your fingers, and it can be a hard habit to break!.

Here are a few bass guitarists that make up my personal pantheon!.

- Geddy Lee
- John Myung
- Chris Squire
- Jaco Pastorius
- Cliff Burton
- Les Claypool
- Victor Wooten
- John Entwistle
- Roger Waters
- Stanley Clarke
- Geezer Butler
- Steve Harris
