How did we get from Rock'n Roll to Classic Rock?!
Question: How did we get from Rock'n Roll to Classic Rock!?
How did we get from Rock'n Roll (sounds of Elvis, Buddy Holly) to Classic Rock (sounds of Van Halen, Boston)!? It seems such a big difference in sound, rhythm, and harmonies!. I'm looking for the connection piece(s) in the evolution!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

There is a lot of argument as to whether or not Classic Rock is actually a genre!.
Personally, I use it as a reference point : CR is bands and artists who originated between 1960 - 1979 {sometimes 1964 - 1979}!. I tend to do this because 80's Rock was a very different style and sound, and *a lot* {by no means all} of those CR bands & artists have earned a place in Rock music history, alongside the greats of Rock 'n' Roll, whereas very few 80's bands have!.!.!.
I may not have put that very well!.
Basically, Rock 'n' Roll has a certain sound and style, and so does Classic Rock, and so on for everything that followed, and that's why CR seems to have become a genre!.
As for how one evolved into the other, I'm not all that sure!.!.!.
I think what actually happened was that bands took Rock 'n' Roll music, and then started to blend in elements from other genres!. For example, complex vocal and instrumental harmonies have always been very common in Folk music {which we have a vast amount of here in Britain}, and I think that may have been one of the influences on the musicians of the early 60's!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Actually, some of us that grew up in "rock and roll" of the 60s and 70s, never made it to the 80's, and certainly never beyond!.
Just like our parents were stuck in the 50's, here we are stuck in the music of the day!. That rock, is now "classic"!. As everyone ages, the band that is acceptable as classic rock widens!. As things get old, and bring out reminiscing folks, then it makes sense to label the older tunes as "classics"!. Just like cars, clothes, fine wines!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

THE BEATLES didn't mark the evoloution of rock!. I would say that actually it goes from olidies rock like Chuck Berry threw to The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd and The Beatles!. The Beatles may be older than the others but were nothing more than a slave to the management and a boy band up until around 67 really!. Of course many might not know but The Beatles were actually watching bands like The Pink Floyd before and during the recording of Sgt!. Peppers!. I know that John Lennon actually went to watch the Pink Floyd set at the 14 Hour Technicolor Dream and before as well!. The Beatles were also in the studio beside Pink Floyd which was already recording Piper!. I would say that really all of these underground psyhedelic bands influenced The Beatles first!. The Beatles most DEFINETLY took off with it and done great but they are by no means the start or the most important!. I don't buy the crap about this band wouldn't be around if it wasn't for this band!. When it comes down to it the changes in music were destined to happen with or without any famous bands we know and love!. That includes my precious Pink Floyd!. It is no different than modern inventions like the telephone or T!.V!. There were people in different parts of the world inventing the same things at the same time!. WHY!? Becasue that is how the modern world works!. Things and certain changes are destined to come about around the same time no matter what just because of the need and want of the bigger cultures in the world!. There was this small, obscure group in the 1960's that seemed to have bridged the gap!. Called, I think, The Beatles!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
