I, personally, prefer finding bands myself!. My musical taste in pretty unique!. It varies from that of most of my friends!. So, it does be better to just find bands myself, rather than asking other people to suggest some!. Not to say that I'm not open to suggestions!.

I don't have a lot of spare time, but what little I do have I can often be found on my computer looking for Metal (other stuff too, but Metal is my passion)

I like finding new bands for myself but I also love when I get recommendations for new bands!. Well I'm starting to get one of my cousins into classic/alternative/progressive rock it's working for the most part!. My other family members are either into rap, country, or disney sh!t!. At least one of them is open minded to new music!. My mom kind of listens to similar things I do but she tends to fall more in love with the lead singers than anything!.
Favorite band I found myself hands down Muse!. I heard this song on the radio and immediately I knew that I must own every cd this band ever makes!. That day I did some investigating into the song and ever since then Muse has and will always remain my favorite band!.

I have mostly found bands on my own!. I like it that way because it means I've made my own music taste and it's pretty unique!. I check out bands recommended by friends and stuff but probably 75% is my own!. My Dad has some similar music taste to me, but not a lot!. My Mum totally doesn't get it and hardly any of my friends like the bands I do!. My best friend hates my favourite band with a passion! About 3 of my friends like 1 or 2 similar bands to mine!.
My favourite band is Fall Out Boy (bring on the thumbs down, I know not everyone likes them - but I do) and I found them myself!.

Well, I guess I've been looking more on my own these days, but I'm all about the sharing!. I've been pushed towards stuff more than I've found it in general though!. I'm lucky enough to have friends and family who I have things in common with, and yet they have good and diverse tastes!. I get a little something different from lots of different places!.

I prefer finding and looking for bands myself because if people recommend bands I feel pressured to like them!. If I'm just browsing on myspace if I don't like them no big deal in my mind!.

I do a little of both!. I pay attention to what people suggest!. I also do searches for myself!. One thing I really love to do is go on Live 365 ( internet radio ) and listen to a station by genre!. I especially do that when I am in a darkwave or ethereal gothic mood!.

Most of the time I ask for recommendations, because I'm too lazy to look for bands myself, and there are people whose music tastes I trust very much!.!. Some people never fail to recommend stuff I like!. Signing up to Last!.fm has made it easier for me to find new bands on my own, though!.

Mostly, I find bands myself!. I have a very wide and varied taste, and usually one band or artist will in some way connect me to more!.!.!.
However, I have asked for a few song recommendations from people ~ usually if I've heard a band and know one or two songs, but don't know what to get next!. Sometimes it's general Q's on here, other times I ask someone who I know to be a fan, such as Invisible Will or Karl!. also, sometimes on here people will notice I mention a certain band or artists, and suggest that if I like them I might like _____!.
I've also had people ask me for recommendations after they've seen me mention a band, and it's always nice to feel that you've helped someone find more great music :)
