Does the first and last note of a song determine it's key signature?!

Question: Does the first and last note of a song determine it's key signature!?
I've noticed in some songs that sometimes the first note might be a G, and it usually ends in G!. Looking at the key signature, it appears the key is in G!. However, I've heard this isn't always true!.

How can I determine it's key just by listening!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:

The last chord of a song is usually its key, the first can be but often isn't!. This is because it's how music works - a chord progression and its accompanying melodies will want to resolve to the tonic!. If you end on anything other than the tonic, it won't feel or sound right!.

The caveat is that this is mostly in straightforward pop music!. Once you get into jazz its not so simple, as you have modulation and all that!.

I don't have a good enough ear to figure it out just by listening, at least most of the time!. I can do it with a chord sheet or sheet music, though!.

The key signature of a piece is determined by the composers preference!. If he wanted the song to start and end on the key of G, then he could!. He could have it start in G major, and then end in F major, and so on!. The notes that are being played at the beginning of the piece and the end have little to do with the key signature!. It has more to do with harmonics!.

If you want to figure out the key of a piece you have to have a very well trained ear, or perfect pitch!. Perfect pitch is the special ability of some people to be able to determine a pitch just by hearing it!.
