I'm stuck on guitar, help please!?!

Question: I'm stuck on guitar, help please!!?
I've been self-teaching for a few years now, but I've come to a point where I feel I haven't improved for months and I don't know what to do about it!. Is there any way to get out of it, or have I hit a wall and I have to stop!?

I did have lessons for a while, but I can't really afford them now!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I've been playing professionally for over 20 years now, and I get into a rut or hit a plateau every once in a while!. It happens if you keep practicing the same way, day in and day out!. What usually works for me is trying to learn something completely different and giving myself a deadline to become proficient at it!. For instance, for years I was just playing blues and soul music, and I got good but I wasn't getting any better!. So, I decided to give reggae a shot!. I sucked at first but eventually, I became competent, and it was all I played for about 6 months!. Believe it or not, when I returned to blues and soul, I was better -- because I was more well-rounded and more versatile!.

I recommend learning something completely different!. Give yourself, for instance, 6 challenging songs to learn -- songs that you would ordinarily think, "That's too hard to play!." Spend about 3 - 4 months trying to get those songs nailed down -- all the guitar parts, including solos and fills!. In that time, even if you aren't perfect, you will have learned something new and perhaps might break out of your plateau!.

Other than that, save up lessons with a reputable (not just any) guitar teacher!. Find a guitarist you like very much and ask him/her to give an opinion on your playing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Everyone hits that point!. You've just gotten to the point to where you have learned the fundamentals, and now you want to learn more - but don't know what you should learn next!. Best advice I can give you is to either buy a book from a music store (they're cheap) or look up free lessons online!. No matter what style of music you play - make sure you know your basic scales (Major, Minor, Minor Pentatonic, Major Pentatonic, Blues, etc!.)!. I'd recommend studying a little chord theory as well as basic music theory as well!. I did this mostly just to help my songwriting, but it improved my guitar playing abilities in the process!. Don't stop completely maybe take a little break then continue by learning new stuff!. We're pretty much the same!. Once I have given up on playing, but I challenged myself by learning hard songs, and looking at online lesson!. Try searching this awesome guitarist in you tube, his name is Buckethead!. He does sick solos and creates improvised ones during his concerts!. Try looking for tabs or music sheets for his songs and challenge yourself to play like him or be better than him!.

Good luck
