Can a piano be too old to tune?!

Question: Can a piano be too old to tune!?
I recently got my piano tuned, its old but i couldnt tell you how old!. I bought it 2nd hand about 10 years ago from an old lady whos daughter used to play so im assuming it could be anywhere up to 30ish years old!. anyway, the guy who tuned it called to my house, looked at it and said that he doesnt tune those pianos anymore cos there so old!. He also said that he would 'try' and tune it but it may not hold the tune for long!
Is this just a ploy to get me down to his shop to buy a new one (I have heard stories that people struggle to leave his shop empty handed cos of his pushyness and I aint buyin a new piano!)
Or, is it true that pianos just give out after a few years!?
also, is there anyway to fix that like get new parts or would it just be cheaper getting a new one altogether!?
By the way he tuned it perfectly and it sounds great!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Pianos can't get too old to be tuned, however, if they have been moved around a lot, or haven't been cared for well enough, the wood and internal structures could break down, in which case tuning the piano wouldn't do much in improving the sound quality!.

I had a second-hand piano which was 18 years old!. Because it had been moved around a lot (I moved house about 14 times), the wood inside had fractured and caused a lot of out-of-tuneness!.

If you're worried about being cheated out of your money, try to get a second opinion from another tuner, and ask how much would it cost to fix the piano!. Sometimes it can be cheaper to just buy a new piano rather than fixing the old one, sort of like cars in that sense!.

But hey! If it sounds great now, don't worry about it unless it goes out of tune again!Www@Enter-QA@Com

one could certainly get new strings, and other repairs!.

the repair person might tell you the piano was not worth it, but you should find out the cost and make your own decision!.

Call a different person than the one you already spoke to!.

i believe that so long as the wood hasn't rotted in places, it can be tuned!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Piano's are made for a life time!.
there is no problem re tuning a old piano!.
every piano need love and care!. there is no problem in tuning an old piano!. some time you need to replace strings or even a hammer!. but on the whole they are rily good to play!. surch out a good piano tuner in the yello pages!. good luck and happy playing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The simple answer is yes!. A piano is the only musical instrument that doesn't improve with age due to the many years of the frame being under extreme tension!. This causes it to eventually reach the stage where it can no longer hold the strings in the required positions!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I have got an ancient piano and just had it tuned with no problems

its ridiculous to say they cant be tuned just because theyre old

sounds like he is after making some money-find a different piano tuner who hasnt got a shop!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Over time, depending on how much the piano was played, strings stretch, hammers wear and pads no longer pad!. It may just need a little tlc and some proper maint!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

hi find an independent piano tuner you could be right he may have been touting for buisness, but someone independant should be able to sort it pianos were built to last good luckWww@Enter-QA@Com
