Question: Old and new Metallica!?
I hear all the time people saying how old Metallica is way better than their new stuff, which they say sucks!.
What is considered old/good, and what's considered new/bad!?
And most importantly: why!?

Old Metallica would be considered everything up to the Black album!. New Metallica is the Black album up to present-day Metallica!. Metallica has been my favorite band for over 6 years, and I have never hated anything they have made!. NEVER!. Metallica was and forever will be one of the greatest thrash metal bands to have ever lived!. They are not "selling out" nor are they "starting to suck!." As an artist, you are entitled to change your sound whenever you want, and experiment with many different characteristics that you believe makes the music you want to hear!. When Metallica made St!. Anger, do anyone even know how much sh*t they were going through!? James said the that album was like a cleansing thing for them and they needed to do it, and all the work they put in was for the next album!.
And people forget too - James blew his voice out after "So What!." For an experienced singer to damage their throat is actually fairly difficult, as you know how to pitch your voice, control your tone, and manage your breathing to avoid that!. So for that to occur you'd have to be working damn hard!. That's why his singing voice changed so dramatically after Garage!. To anyone hoping for a repeat of Kill Em' All, up to Ride, the riffs are possible, the voice isn't!.
Plus, they were not exposed to the same surroundings and environment that they once were before making St!. Anger, so obviously (you're good with that term, no!?) they wrote about the emotions and things going on in their lives at that period in time!. It makes plenty of sense, almost every artist is inspired by what's happening in his life!.
Oh, and no one wants monotony!.

Why: The albums before the black album were definitely metal!. Then the black album came, it was more like pop-metal(a difficult concept) I mean, the basic riff to "enter sandman" was a pop-rock riff!.
Bad/New: Black album and beyond!.
Why: It just totally sucks!.
With one exception: "Through the Never" is a decent song from the black album!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Old Metallica is "Kill Em All" to "!.!.!.And Justice"!. The Black Album marks a change to less heavy, more rock songs!.
I like a lot of stuff that wouldn't be described as heavy or metal so I'm not just a person who says the reason the Black Album sucked was because it wasn't heavy!. The songs were just boring, simple and the guitars sucked!.

I think it's funny people judge Metallica albums by how long their hair is!.
Whatever, I prefer the old stuff and I mean by And Justice For All!. however, I am enjoying the hell out of Death Magnetic!. I support them no matter what though St Anger blew chunks, it's time to move on!. Keep rocking you short hair'd less aggressive men because I still love it!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

Old is when they had the true metal sound, and their lyrics meant something and werent cheesy, St!. Anger had the worst lyrics in metallicas history, and the metal sound was missing from a few songs, i have not had the opportunity to buy their new album yet, so i dont know what its likeWww@Enter-QA@Com

The black album did it for me!. I was the BIGGEST fan until that album and it was S**T!. Lost interest after that!. I was such a big fan I was going to call my first born son Lars Kirk James Jason, but i did not and I am glad!. They lost their grunt somehow and it all sounded try hard!.
