Who was Frederic Chopin as a person?!

Question: Who was Frederic Chopin as a person!?
Hi, I'm doing this research paper on him and I know tons about him and he's my favorite composer, however this only counts for the musical aspect of him!. Who was he as a person, was his personality miserable and pessimistic, or was he arrogant, or nice!? I've read all his journals and he seems pessimistic alot, and not very arrogant or optimistic neither!. But what was his true personality, are there any good books about him out there or any good sources on the internet!? Moreover, was he really an asexual!? I've really gone deep into my research about him, and I've seen rumors that he is, however wasn't he engaged with a seventeen y/o polish girl and later on George Sand!.!.!.in which both he was sexually active in!? Heh, sorry if it's unappropriate but this biograpghy paper needs to be extraordinary for an honors music course!. Thanks!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ah, Chopin, my favorite composer as well! (well, equally next to Beethoven!.!.!.) His dear personality! His personality DOES have something to do with his music- actually it has everything to do with it!. All that great music had to come from the heart, not just the mind, and his very strong personality and other aspects of it that people will think negative (but I don't) always shaped his music!. I think that Chopin has the most melancholic and even depressing pieces of music ever written!.

Well, you are 100% right that he was pessimistic!. He was always weighed down by the negative things in his live, and he never ignored them- why, he rather "highlighted" them!. He had so many troubles in his life, like his illness, the tragedy in his family (his sister died of tuberculosis when she was 14), his parting with his dear native home (he was the most patriotic!), and of course, his turbulent love life!. He always expressed his true feelings, and never composed a piece without making it match his current feelings!. He was also a really nice person, and never arrogant!. His teaching would have said it all!. He cared so much about his students, and taught them like he was saying all those things to himself- that means that he was very, very frank and also very gentle to his students, never hurting their feelings and such things!. (There are many quotes about this, and you can always find this information in his biography books!. A rather good book to read is "Chopin" by Jim Samson!.) And he was really sweet in general, like the way he acted with his family: when he visited them after he left for Paris, he got so emotional that he cried, saying how much he loved them, especially his mother!. He was always loyal to all of his family members, and had an especially strong relationship with his sisters, which made it even harder when he lost one of his sisters!. I think that Chopin was a mong the greatest Polish patriots, lol, so that definitely had an effect on his music!. He has 57 Mazurkas, 11 polonaises (not counting the ones that take part in his works without opus)!. So he really loved including Polish music and themes in his compositions- if you don't know how to recognize Chopin (which isn't the case here!.!.!.), you could always look for his many Polish themes in his music! So this is a little about his personality!. There are many, many more things to say, but that means that I will have to rant on for pages, which isn't the most convenient for the reader!.!.!.

And Chopin's love life now! He was NOT an asexual, nor was he gay like some people that think they're cool say!. I don't know what it is- what, if a person was as emotional and sensitive as Chopin, does that label him as gay!? Not all gay people are sensitive and emotional- that is not what describes them!. I hate it when people associate being gay with a person's personality- that is total stereotyping!!! It's an insult for gay people, and for Chopin!. Being gay is a form of sexuality, and being emotional or sensitive is a form of personality!! So anyways, no, he wasn't asexual, because he did have lovers!. Not many, but a few!. Of course, his first love was Constancja Kladkowska, whom he never got to have a relationship with, since he missed his last chance to confess his true feelings to her when he left for Paris!. He wrote many pieces about her or thinking of her, like the second movement of the second concerto, like he said in his many letters to his best friend, Tytus!. He also wrote actual songs that were intended to be sung, and many have the subject of love and such things!. also, Chopin is rumored to have had an affair with Delfina Potocka, but no one knows for sure, since that if they had a relationship, they kept it private!. But if the relationship was true, then he was definitely sexually active!. And of course, the famous "17-year-old Polish girl", Maria Wodzinska!. (He was also sexually active in this relationship, as well!.) He got engaged with her when he was 25, and they were planning to get married!. But then, Chopin received a letter from Maria's parents, stating that they are not granted the permission to marry, because of Chopin's illness!. Chopin was heartbroken (as well as Maria), and he labeled the letter from his parents "My Sorrow" and kept it in a drawer until the end of his life!. He then went on for a while without getting into any relationships, and of course, in 1837, the famous George Sand relationship started (which was the most sexually active relationship!.) They were together until 1847, but never married, though (again, due to Chopin's illness!.) But the ten-year period when he was together with George Sand (by the way, her real name was Aurore Dudevant) was the most productive in his composition!. He composed pieces among his greatest works in those years, and it was also a great quantity (as well as quality, of course!.) This was his last relationship!. Some people go to such lengths as to say that Chopin was involved in inummerable relaWww@Enter-QA@Com

Have you read "Life of Chopin" written by Franz Liszt!? Dover publishes it, so it is pretty cheap, and an interesting read!.

I'm assuming you've already looked at the major scholarly sources, so I'm not going to list them!.

Helina Goldberg's books and articles on Chopin are extraordinary, but there are a few things I disagree with her on!. She is a scholar and I'm a pianist, so there would naturally be some disputes!Www@Enter-QA@Com

My response may not be helpful to you; can only report what information I've picked up from many years of exposure, listening to and performing classical music: no presumption to being an academically accredited musicologist!.

As you are aware, he was a very physically frail person all of his life: no FDR there!. And from what I gather, was at the very least an effete, if not somewhat effeminate individual: possibly homosexual, but that's pure speculation on my part; and if so, in all probability it was latent!.

It is known that George Sand trapezed around in men's garb(indicating only one thing); and considering such facts and speculations all together, it would be natural to assume that there probably was no real sexual liason between them!.

And coupled with the fact that much of his music is so highly charged with emotion, one is left with only one possible conclusion with regards to why: sublimation of the sexual drive!.

Am sure you must have heard of the caper(if I recall it correctly), where he, Chopin, was suppossed to be playing the piano behind a curtain, but when the curtain was pulled back, it was not he, but Franz Liszt!.

That's about all I can think of that "might" be of some help to you!. If I think of anything later, will edit it on!.

Much good luck on your paper,

Alberich
