Robert Plant, from Led Zeppelin (although he was with some female bluegrass singer this year, and in The Honeydrippers way back when) is the absolute best!.
Ed Kowalczyk of Live is incredible, just incredible!. Second only to Plant!.
Al Green (independent vocalist, Motown soul back when) Just listen to those floating high notes he sings and you've got what makes him so great!.
Neil Diamond (no band, just an independent vocalist) was to die for, in his heyday!. Wonderful, masterful, rich voice!.
Jim Morrison of The Doors had an awesome, matinee-idol type of voice, but of course his music wasn't matinee idol at all!.

Usually my go-to call is Mike Patton (Faith No More/Mr!. Bungle/Tomahawk/Fantomas/Peeping Tom), so I'll definitely go with him since nobody else listed him yet!.
I'm also a huge Alice Cooper fan!. The best example I've got offhand is G'N'R's "The Garden"!.!.!. as soon as Alice's guest vocals start, you can hear the amount of personality in the singing increase tenfold over Axl!.!.!. Alice is one of the true greats!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
