That's the way radio has always been, not just hip hop!. It's not "who's got the best song!?" it's always been "who's got the best marketing!?"!.
However, when you look back over time, the memorable songs that stick as classics are rarely the huge hits (sometimes they are), they are the great songs!. Look at some of your favourites from way back in wikipedia and I'll bet they were never number one hits!. Great music is always great music!. Soulja boy is just another "New Kids on the Block"!. Think any of their songs will resonate through history!?
