A lot of those bands were big-time innovators; they were at the forefront of their sound!.
The last band I can think of to have that kind of impact is Nirvana!. Not that they really invented that sound (ask the Pixies, Sonic Youth, the Melvins, and Husker Du), but they made it popular (enormously so!)!. They are one of the last big bands to hit the radio and shatter the paradigm in the process!.
Of your list, the Beatles really embody everything else that a band like that needed to do to cement so big a reputation: the trifecta of innovation, popularity, and critical/artistic acclaim!. They are pretty much the closest any rock band has ever come to locking down all three at once for an entire career!. (Not that they are automatically my favorite band, but it can't be denied that they did this!.)
Usually, bands that are critically and artistically praised are not as popular, and vice versa!. Most post-Nirvana bands fall on one side (Radiohead, the Eels, etc!.) or the other (My Chemical Romance, Nickelback, Disturbed, etc!.),
There have been a few bands in the (relatively) recent era like Modest Mouse and the White Stripes that have had a better balance of popularity vs!. artistic acclaim, and I'm personally a huge fan of both, but I still don't know whether they are going to be held up as classic rock giants come 20 years from now!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I know most people would disagree but well I don't know if they'll be remembered as one of the greats but I definately think
Good Charlotte
has the potential to one day they continue evolving their style as time passes moving with the fans rather than staying the same and getting old!.
GOOD CHARLOTTE (2000) - boy band with angsty pop
THE YOUNG AND THE HOPELESS (2002) more rock stronger punk attitude
THE CHRONICLES OF LIFE AND DEATH (2004) much more theatric, dramatic still rock with slight punk edge!.
GOOD MORNING REVIVAL (2007) much more mature, completely lost the punk element and brought in a dance vibe!.
I think what makes a good band is the ability to evolve and grow and the ability to continue learning!.
DEFINATELY I THINK:
Green Day
Blink - 182Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't know if they'd ever be classified in the same league as those you mentioned, mainly because those bands were the pioneers (you missed Black Sabbath!!!), but Muse are just getting bigger and bigger!.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were still going in 20 or 30 years time!. I think that's what makes a band an all-time great - they're stuff is still kickass decades and decades later!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Tool, Opeth, Slayer, Megadeth, Rammstein!.!. theres a few more, cant really think of them right now!.
The thing is, the bands that will be remembered 20-30 years from now wont be the pop/rap groups being thrown out by the mainstream every 5 minutes, but the true talented bands that leave a lasting impression!.
Ill give the likes of Rihanna and Kelly Clarkson another 2 years at most until they're working at burger king!.

Yes, certainly!. Which I find quite surprising!. These days, music seems to lack the essence of honestly that a lot of classic music from the 70's and 80's had!.
Anyway, I think:
Green Day (deservedly)
The Offspring (also deservedly)
U2
I would have said Blink- 182 aswell, but they've already split up!. They'll certainly be remembered for a very long time, regardless of how simple so many of their songs were!. The impact they had on so many lives, and still continue to have, is profound!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Maybe U2!. Maybe!. You wont hear most of the current stuff 40 years from now like some of the bands mentioned above!. In my opionion Queen is not in that league you mentioned!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Radiohead, definitely!. And for the people saying that Radiohead isn't popular, their last 3 albums have all debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Not a chance!. Most bands today aren't even good enough to properly cover those artists' music, let alone write songs of comparable quality!.
And if anyone says Coldplay, I swear I'll lose my mind!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
