Key of D, what chord is this?!

Question: Key of D, what chord is this!?
It's the key of D major and the chord is A C# Eb!.

It's the only chord on my theory test that I just stared at like an idiot!. I have an odd feeling that the answer is obvious, but it's going to bother me until I know what it is!.

I say that it's a half diminished seventh on Eb!.
If the Eb were in root position, you could imainge a fully diminished seventh as Eb, F#, A, and C!.
The seventh, which is not C, is not diminished, so that makes it a half diminished seventh!.
Since the F# instead of the Eb is in root position, it is a first inversion!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

That's an odd chord for a test!. If the triad were diminished and the 7th were minor, it would make sense, and it would be a half diminished 7th!. But this is the other way around with I minor triad and a diminished 7th!. This doesn't really have a classification!. The best you could do is just give it a name F# minor dim 7!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

actually, that still doesn't make sense!. If you thought the left hand was in bass clef, you would have said that the note A# is in the chord in your original question!. Now that you see it's in treble, where does the F# come from!?

Check all 4 pitches again!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm not sure!.

It's a Root, Major 3rd, with a Diminished 5th

So it's not a D Diminished!. Cuz the 3rd is Major!.

I suppose you could call it D Maj Suspended b5th or something like that!.
