Question: Why is it that artists with actual subject matter aren't as succesful!?
I mean some are!. But like Lil Wayne talks about licking someone like a lollipop and Nas and others don't even chart as high!. R&B is the same way!. Ppl say R&B is too contemporary, yet ppl who are still just as soulful aren't as successful!. Except for maybe Ne- Yo, Alicia Keys, Keyshia ColeWww@Enter-QA@Com

I agree that street/conscience rappers aren't most of the time as successful, yet that doesn't mean that they dont make any money, look at Nas, he still makes a killin, take Lupe fiasco(my favorite artist) for instance, hes also makin money, so is styles p and so on, people go with trends, and the new trend in the rap game now is bein in da club and makin' money instead of talkin about political issues, issues in culture, bein in tha streets and have pride for where you came from instead of makin a profit off of it,just overall in depth lyrics!.

Because the majority of people who buy music or listen to the radio want to hear songs which don't require them to think!. A catchy melody and a beat to dance to is all that matters!. They don't really care to be confronted with challenging subject matter!.
