The specific terms would be Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, and Contralto!. Be careful of the advice you get on Alto and Soprano!. Range doesn't hold as much weight at times when it comes to voice types as you think!. Here is an answer I've given in the past on the subject!.

There is no specific range for a soprano, mezzo, or contralto!. You don't quote range with voice types!. It is the transition point, where the voice flip involving passagio, and where the voice feels most comfortable!. The tessitura also, and the color of the sound (timbre)!.

You can have a soprano and an "alto" with the same range!. This happens more often than people think!. However, the tone quality will be different!. An alto has more of a darker sound, even if the alto has high notes in her range!. A soprano's high notes tend to ring more fluid than an alto!. The next step is where the voice flips!. A soprano's transition point sits higher than an alto, even if they have the same range!. This is where the voice begins to shift from chest to head voice!. Most soprano's flip is around F or F#, most mezzos (often classified as altos in the basic realm of voice parts) start around E or E flat!. So you see, the alto's transition point is lower!. Check your shift, and see if you can tell a difference!. If you hear and feel a change around F/F#, you are a soprano!.

Most females are sopranos!. Mezzos are uncommon, and true contralto voices are rare commodities!. The misconception with vocal fach is too many people think it relies on range!. If you based vocal fach on my range, you would think my voice was schitzophrenic, and you would never know what I am!. My friend is the same way, however I am a Mezzo and she is a Soprano!. Her high notes sound brighter than mine, and her low notes are not as dark in sound as mine!.

Now you see we can't tell if your voice is the "average" soprano voice by those qualifications in your question!. Soprano voicing doesn't have dependency on how high or low you can sing all the time!.

Ok!. Now its done and I hope this helps!. Just build up some confidence, feel free to be you, and let go of any insecurities you have vocally!. Your teacher is there to help you grow, not mock you!. There's nothing to be afraid of, although I was in your shoes years ago!. Trust me, if you just let go and release that tension, you could grow into a great musician if you are willing to work at it!. Don't give up and keep on singing!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, obviously, you must know that sopranos since higher than altos!.
I am a soprano myself, but a while back, I was thouight to be an alto!.
Really, it doesn't matter how high you can sing!.!.!.it all depends on where you sound best and strongest!.
If you have trouble hitting the high notes, or find that you sound shaky when you sing them, you are either very nervous or not a true soprano!.
also, you could be a mezzo soprano, that is in between soprano and alto!. Altos usually sing pretty low at times!.!.!.sometimes lower than an A below the staffs!. Sopranos can get as high as F's above the staff, in which case you would be a coloratura soprano!.
So, If you have trouble singing higher pitches, but you find that you sing better higher, you are probably a mezzo, so you'd sing soprano 2 parts, soprano 1 being the highest!.
Hope this helps, lemme know if you have anymore questions b/c I go to a special high school for singing and we learn all about this kind of stuff!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Alto is your lower range for women!. They can generally hit higher, but they are the lowest form of female singing, until you dive into the very complex singing!.

There is the Wikipedia link to all about altos!. I myself am an alto, and I sing rather deep!.

Your saprano, however, is your higher range of singing!. You can split into first alto, second alto, first saprano and second saprano is singing a piece!. First tend to be higher ranged and seconds tend to be the lower of the range!.

I myself was in chorus for two or three years and I am still involved in musicals!. If there is anything else you need to know, ask!. I will add more!Www@Enter-QA@Com
