It's called "panning!."
It means moving a sound to a different speaker!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Simple panning!. It was much more difficult to do back then because they didn't have the digital technology we use today!.

You can easily replicate the effect using a music editor like Audacity, Protools, or Digital Performer!. Just cut the times you want to pan, and set one segment to the left speaker, the next segment to the right speaker, etc!.

This effect is also used in the turntable solo in Linkin Park's "Session" from Meteora!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Jimmy Page used a lot of different techniques to get sounds on this album!. The echo forward at the end, Plant was out in a field, so that his voice sounds far away, but the speaker was wired to a truckload of wire to cause a significant delay!. The shifting side to side was accomplished by manually shifting the volume on the left and right sides in post production!.

Read the book "Gods of Thunder" it tells a lot of stories about Led Zeppelin!.!.!.the color TV story is classic!Www@Enter-QA@Com

more of just an effect!. it actually was used a lot in the late 60's and early 70's!.!.!. what we now call "classic rock!."

pink floyd, led zepplin, deep purple, nazareth!.!.!. they all used the effect!. think it has somethign to do with the drugs!.!.!. hahahaWww@Enter-QA@Com

alot of other of bands do that too!.
thats why it somtimes sucks sharing an earphone with a friend cause the song ends up sounding weird, since ur only hearing a part of the instruments!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
