There are a lot of drum, bass, and piano trios!. My first suggestion is The Bill Evans Trio of the early 1960's!.!.!.

Bill Evans-piano
Scott LeFarro-bass
Paul Motain-drums!.

Try the albums!.!.!.

Sunday at The Village Vanguard
Portrait in Jazz
Explorations

My second suggestion is The The Red Garland Trio!. A first choice of John Coltrane's in the mid 1950's!.!.!.

Red Garland-piano
Paul Chambers-bass
Art Taylor-drums

Try theses albums!.!.!.

Groovy!
A Garland of Red!.

My favorite trio I've seen live was the Daniello Perez Trio!.!.!.

Daniello Perez-piano
John Pattitucci(sp!?)-bass
Roy Haynes-drums

It was called the Daniello Perez Trio but really Haynes and Pattitucci were the entire show!. it was like a duet of improvisation the entire night!. They were having lots of fun playing off each other!. It was in a real small club, and they took a lot of liberty with their experimenting with each song!. One of the best shows I have seen of any kind!. It brings back good memories just thinking about it!.

"The Greatest Jazz Concert Ever" at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada in 1953 was opened by the Bud Powell trio (with Charles Mingus on bass and Max Roach drumming)!. Oscar Peterson recorded very often in that trio format, (my favorite lineup is Ray Brown on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums) as did his inspiration, Art Tatum!. Ramsey Lewis, Ahmad Jamal, Joe Sample and countless other pianists from the jazz mainstream have explored this classic medium!.
The best piano trio I've ever seen live has to be the McCoy Tyner trio with Avery Sharpe on bass and Louis Hayes drumming!. This unit is well traveled and much recorded!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Chick Corea - Akoustik Band, this is the probably the ultimate jazz recording, very loose but musical at the same time!. They play off each other like mad!.
Ray Brown Trio - Anyone, they're all amazing!.
Bill Evans Trio - A bunch!.
Keith Jarrett's Standards!.
I would even try Dave Brubeck, he mostly plays a quartet with a Sax, but it's fun stuff too!.
