I listened to this in its entirety yesterday!. I am so proud of myself!. lol
Lou Reed's a genius and has been involved in many of the finest albums and songs of all-time ("Heroin," anyone!?), but this is a total chore!.
Though I will say this, once you are deep into it, you start to hear music in it!. Except you're not sure if it's there or if you've gone batsh*t crazy!. lol
It's so absurd and wrong Nick Hornby (author of About a Boy and High Fidelity) compared Radiohead's beautiful, challenging, and legendary Kid A to Metal Machine Music!
"Novelist Nick Hornby compared Kid A to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, implying that it was an attempt at "commercial suicide" in order to escape from a label contract!. He summarized a common source of opposition to the album in a review for The New Yorker, lamenting the change in musical style from The Bends (1995) and OK Computer!."
Perhaps Mr!. Horny needs better headphones if he's equating such songs as "How to Disappear Completely" and "Idioteque" to 64 minutes of guitar feedback played at different speeds!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

I've only listened to about half a track!.He actually mounted the guitars against an amplifier so the vibrations of the amps would cause the strings to move & thus the guitars would actually "play themselves"!.But no, Kid A is just the direction Thom Yorke wanted to follow becuase he had writers block for a long time & got into music from the Warp label like Aphex Twin, Autechre ect!.He actually considered making it an instrumental album at some stage because he said he wasn't into singing anymore!.But I agree that Hornby is wrong about comparing the two albums!.Kid A has actual songs that were written on it, unlike Metal Machine Music!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I did a couple of months back!. Not easy!. I don't get the comparison, I think Kid A is magnificent!.
