Answers:
For practice, I play my acoustic-electric through a cheapie electric guitar amp, but I don't think it would work as well with a straight acoustic that has an aftermarket soundhole type pickup installed!.!.!.

For $600 you can probably get a lower end Martin or a step up with some other brand!.!.!. Personally, I'd rather have a nice Yamaha Compass series or Takamine acoustic-electric!.!.!. Both are very well made & have great tone & electronics!.!.!. An Ovation Celebrity is another good option in that price range!.!.!. They're not my personal fav, but a lot of people swear by them!.!.!. When in doubt, play them all & see what feels best to you!.!.!.

Whatever brand you buy, here are some tips:

-Make sure the width of the neck is comfortable for you to play!.!.!.

- For $600 you should be able to get a solid wood top!.!.!. Laminate, veneer, or plywood are code for NOT SOLID WOOD!.!.!.

-Go for a two or three piece back if it's an option!.!.!.

-Inlays made of wood or other natural materials around the sound hole, up the center of the back, or along the fretboard are nice & add value to the guitar!.!.!.

- Don't pay top dollar for freaky colors!.!.!. They almost never hold their resale value!.!.!.

- Check the action!.!.!. This means the strings are easy to hold down & are about the same distance off the fretboard all the way up the neck!.!.!. If the strings are much higher on one end, the guitar needs a neck adjustment!.!.!. Make whoever is trying to sell it to you fix it before you pay them for the guitar!.!.!.

- If it's a used guitar, look for evidence of repair!.!.!. Always plug it in & check the electronics!.!.!. Flip all the switches & turn all the dials to make sure they work!.!.!. Small hairline cracks in the body, especially in the front near the bridge, are very common and are bad news!.!.!. also, check where the neck and bridge attach to the body of the guitar and if there is any sign that any of these pieces have ever separated & been glued back together, that's also a bad thing!.!.!.

Hope this helps!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Look for an acoustic with electric pick-ups!. And don't wory about the name, get something that feels comfortable, if you wanna perform later, you can spend more $!. You'll get what you pay for!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Good Martins are expensive!.

Try a Takamine!. They have the electronics systems for the electric-accoustic that you can play through an amp!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Washburn or Maton - but Maton's market is limited [I think] because they're Melbourne-based!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
