Maybe not what you're after, but the only cover I like more than the original is Gary Jule's version of 'Mad World' featured on the Donnie Darko film!. The original Tears for Fears version is still an amazing song!.

I heard Earth Angel covered by a band called Shindig, it was good!. I doubt they're still a band though!.
