Answers:
No!. It seems a little like it does, but on closer look, it doesn't!. It is just defending the South from those that claim that all Southerners are racist!. Check out the Wikipedia page!.

The song is a response to two Neil Young songs, Southern Man and Alabama!. Young, a Canadian, wrote those songs expressing disapproval over politics in the Southern United States!. Lynyrd Skynyrd felt that the songs were attacking the entire South over racism, when not everybody was racist!.

The song makes a comment about the people of Alabama supporting their Governor, George Wallace, notoriously known for being in favor of segregation!. After they state that he has support they boo in disapproval!. However quite a few people did not catch their disapproval, and mistook the song as supporting Wallace!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No there really aren't any racist lyrics in Sweet Home Alabama!.
Anyone who thinks that way is probably referring to their come-back line "I hope Neil Young will remember- Southern Man don't need him around anyhow", as a rebuttal to Neil Young's songs "Southern Man" & "Alabama"
Since Neil Young's songs are clearly anti-racist, then Lynard Skynard's apparent disagreement with Neil is being mistaken as being pro-racist, when in actual fact all they were saying is for Neil to mind his own business, & let the South work out their social problems on their own!. I listen to that song quite a bit, and I have never heard anything racist!. It brings up Watergate, Neil Young, George Wallace and some other southern charms!. The Confederate Flag is represented as a symbol of racism but the band was still classic!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's Lynyrd Skynyrd
And no, it's about loving Alabama, the only insult is towards Neil Young as a rebutal to his song "Southern Man", which insults southerners!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

yea, i would not be surprised to hear it does, lynard skynard is southern and old, so it might, but i really dont know!. i do love the song thoughWww@Enter-QA@Com

Not racist at all, just a great old southern rock song!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

no they're not racist lyrics!. the song's just about how much the band likes alabama!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
