You can never go wrong with Taffanel and Gaubert - most of us run those every day of our lives - the 17 exercises - especially #4, with all articulations!. A metronome is your best firend, too - play slow and CLEAN before you attempt to click up the tempo!.

As far as literature you should know - go to the National Flute Association site (www!.nfaonline!.org)!. Order their booklet of solos, sorted by grade of difficulty!. This will be an EXCELLENT guideline for you!.

also, for under $20, you can get a GREAT CD-ROM of 200 flute solos and their accompaniments, to print out!. No audio - just copyright-free editions!. Some are pretty old and old-fashioned in their editing - but it's a bargain, and a good way to browse!.

Go to Yahoo Groups and join FLUTENET!. There are over 3,000 of us flutists there, and you will be able to ask ALL kinds of questions and get great responses!. You can also join the Larry Krantz flute group (Google him) and even the Sir James Galway site (link from Larry, I think)!. These are the best groups currently around for serious flutists!.

I hope you have a GREAT private teacher - getting into a good music college as a flute major WITHOUT a great teacher, is going to be near to impossible!. I wish you much luck - and write back with more info, so we can help you more! What colleges are on your short list!? Please do not say Juilliard -they take about 5% of the applicants who ALREADY are professional caliber!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I asked my room mate and she said try http://www!.WatchGigs!.com
not that she knows anything ;-) but worth a look!
