I really liked the song: interesting though, I imagined Ozzy singing this song, it seems like he influenced that lead singer, but you know I'm ignorant to Classic Metal (and general), so I could be wrong!?
Anyway, I think Steve Vai is an awesome guitar player and I'm not sure I agree with "emotionless" and "cold"!. It always cracks me up how when you ask for the opinion on a guitar player or someone in general, people say, "yeah he's good, but so and so is better!.!.!."!. Well to speak on Vai alone, he stands up there as one of the greats!. No, he's not the best, but his playing blows my mind sometimes!. When I first picked up Alien Love Secrets (my first), my jaw hit the floor!. Bad Horsie, among others, showed me how patient he is!. He didn't have to make the song one long solo, as other players do!. He has the ability to make you create mini-stories in your head, based on his song composition!.!.!.!.well, at least for me!. Vai is amazing and obviously one of the most talented guitar players to ever live!. He does go a little overboard at times and is a very weird human being to say the least!! BUT he does have some very soulful and emotional playing despite what some may think!.!.!.just listen to For the Love of God and Lotus Feet!.!.!.
I own almost everything Vai has recorded and I love the stuff he did w/Alcatrazz, super awesome!. I am more of a Satch fan but Vai has been one of my favorites for many many years!.!.!.I try to see him live every chance I get and really enjoy learning his songs, it has helped me to become a much better player over the years!.
plus Vai plays with my favorite drummer!.!.!.Jeremy Colson!!!

Steve Vai, is while a very skilled guitar player, over rated to say the least!.
He is not in fact God and there are plenty of "raw skill" guitarists better than him!.
Sam Totman and Herman Li from Dragonforce (while they may be sellouts, the solo's dont lie about their skill)
Protest the Hero's guitarist!.
The Human Abstract's guitarists!.
there are many people far more creative and faster, and what not than steve vai!.

Yea, they were one of those "fringe" bands that I kinda got into!.!.!.along with Metal Church and Icon, Saigon Kick etc!.!.!.not major players but still in the metal game in the 80's!.
As far as Vai goes, I tend to agree with those who noted that he is a technical genius, yet comes across as rather emotionless to me!. I've never really enjoyed his solo stuff as it just becomes mind numbing after a while!.!.!.!.kinda like "let's see how many noises we can make and for how long without actually forming a melody"!. He's impressive as a guitarist, but not really my style!.

I think Steve is better in a band than a solo artist!.!.!.AS a solo artist, all his music is one emotionless boring solo

I like Vai!.!.he is undeniably talented, but I find he fals more into the technical wizardry sid eof the spectrum, much like Malmsteen!.!.!.amazing, but seemingly cold and passionless!.
I am sure, from his perspective this is far from the case, but that is how his stuff comes across to me!. Alcatraz is good, G3 not so much!.
And yeah, I like Satch better, seems to have a more soulful vibe to his playing!.

If you had maybe compared someone like Gus G of Firewind to Vai!.!.!.then yeah!.!.!. I could at least see a legit arguement!.
