Well, since I've heard exactly none of these bands, I'm going to take a wild stab and say that it's probably some kind've a pop punk sound you're looking for, right!?

To get a basic pop punk rhythm guitar sound, *usually* you want a thinner guitar with beefy pickups going into a moderately high gain (but not necessarily metal) amp!. This approach was used by Green Day and Blink 182, for instance, and by many others!. Take a strat-style guitar, put Invaders or some such in it, and plug into a nice Marshall tube amp!.

And that's about it!. Really!.

It works because the thinner guitars usually don't have a big bass response, so that naturally limits the beefy humbuckers from pushing too much bass!.!.!. which keeps the tone brighter, with more treble and clarity!.

You can cop this effect to some degree by using an EQ pedal between your gutiar and your distortion source (pedal or amp) and cutting the lower frequencies to some degree (ie, below 300-400 hz)!. You may also want to bump up your 3khz by a few db, as this increases the "attackey" feel!.

You can also lower the bass side of your pickups (the part under the thick E string) so that your pickups slant down from the treble side to the bass side!. This naturally lowers your bass response and does essentially the same thing as the EQ pedal!. The amount of lowering will depend on your guitar and the rest of your signal chain (amp, speakers, style of playing, etc)!.

This is just the basic rhythm sound!. You can use a delay pedal, sure, but usually its used for lead stuff!. If you set it to a delay of less than 200 ms you get a slapback delay, which if set correctly may provide some "thickening" to your sound!.!.!. but can just as easily cause "mud", too!. I would use a delay pedal for arpeggios and fills, not for trying to thicken up a rhythm guitar!.

To sum!.!.!. upgrade your pickups, upgrade your amp, and you'll see a bigger improvement in tone versus buying pedals and whatnot!.
