Question about the song Sicilienne by Fauré?!

Question: Question about the song Sicilienne by Fauré!?
My friend played Sicilienne for me on her cello!. It sounded so familiar!. Does anyone know if this song is in any shows or movies!? It's driving me crazy 'cause I know I've heard it somewhere before! Thanks in advance!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Firstly, it's not a 'song'!. Songs are, by definition, sung by singers and (usually) have words!. No words, not a 'song'!. It is better to refer to 'pieces' of music, 'works' or 'compositions'!. The word 'song' has become much misused over recent years but just because this is commonplace, it does not mean it is right!.

To answer your question: I have a huge database of classical music used in films!. I have to say I was surprised to find that Fauré's 'Sicilienne' has never been used in a movie!. It is a very well-known piece, however, and you must have heard this music somewhere else!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It was originally used to accompany a theatrical piece, 'Pelleas et Melisande', by the belgian dramatist Maurice Maeterlinck!.
All the essential info on that musical suite containing the Sicilienne you like so much are in this Chicago Symphony concert program:

The Faure Sicilienne is also a famous FLUTE solo, and is often played by students in MS and HS!. Perhaps you have had a friend who played it on flute - all of my flute students learn this!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
