From what I've read from the many Beatles biography in the past!.
For the first question: They fist got their start as The Quarrymen in 1958 when John Lennon and Paul McCartney first started playing together!. They first played at simple gigs and were still a bit amateurish, but when they went to Hamburg for the first time they would play about ten hours a night, only thing keeping up was booze and amphetamines!. From this experience they then started playing more in key with each other and have evolved from an amateurish "skiffle band" into more of entertainers!.
For the second question: The main reason they quit touring was the ever increasing pressure to play in more and more sold-out stadiums to screaming teenaged girls!. They felt their fans never came for the music but instead the "spectacle" of The Beatles themselves!. also an incident in the Phillipines in which they were almost beaten to death, and John Lennon's "controversial" Jesus comment made them hated among concerned parents and religious sects!. They then decided not touring would be better for them in the end!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
