What I think is that your ignorance is showing!. Of all the bands you have listed, the Arctic Monkeys are the only one to whom the label 'indie' can be accurately applied!. It is blatantly obvious that you don't have the first fecking clue what 'indie' means!
Arctic Monkeys are 'indie' because they are signed to the INDEPENDENT label, Domino Records!.
Kasabian are NOT indie because they're signed with the MAJOR record label, Sony!.
Kings of Leon are NOT indie because they also have a contract with Sony!.
The Strokes also Sony, ergo NOT indie
Oasis are with Columbia - so NOT INDIE!!
Has the penny dropped yet!.!.!.!? Indie IS NOT a genre! I've been banging on about this since I began posting here - I would have thought *SOMEONE* would have found a clue by now!
The qualifying adjective 'indie', in case you've not got a clue yet, is an abbreviation of 'independent', and is applicable to any band, in any genre, not signed to a major label (though some also apply it to bands who aren't signed at all)!.
My favourite indie band is Jaded Sun!. They're signed to the very tiny independent Irish label Sian Records!. I love the Aussie band Airbourne too, but they're no longer indie, having signed a contract with EMI at the beginning of this year!.
So explain to me again how Oasis are indie when they're signed to Columbia Records - and have been for practically their entire history!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Mmm,I think I'd have to go for the first and original generation of 'indie' bands,well using 'indie' as a category of music because indie just means independant and elvis presely made his first record in a studio/shop in his hometown for his mother so does that count as indie or Iron Maiden with 'the soundhouse tapes' for example!.

Cue loads of folk telling you that the bands you mentioned are not indie,apart from the Monkeys!.
For me, my favourite bands at this minute in time are The National,Godspeed You Black Emperor!, F%ck Buttons!.
I do have a soft spot for the Monkeys tho-In Alex Turner, they have most talented lyricist in Britain at the moment!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Oasis isn't really indie, I think they were way "pre-indie"!. They are just classic, period :D
But I am super pleased you listed Kasabian and The Strokes!. I wouldn't call them indie either but I would go with Kasabian as being my favorite (although the Strokes are sooo good :P)Www@Enter-QA@Com
