Question: Why do people dislike pre-american idiot Green Day!?

I don't think people know anything other than the new stuff or Basket Case!. I love their older stuff!. When Dookie came out I immediately went out & bought 39/Smooth & Kerplunk!. They were young then and you could tell they were young!.
But right when Nimrod came out you could hear them change, and I'm so glad they did becuase what kind of band would they be if they didn't evolve!.!.!.I think they'd be pretty boring if they stayed the same and I hope their next album is different than American Idiot-I think that everyone was just feeling it due to the state of the world!.

I like Green Day in general, including American Idiot!.
And I completely disagree that American Idiot marked a turn towards a more commercial sound, they had been making pop punk songs for a long time that were just as commercial!. Maybe a few of the songs were a different style, but I wouldn't say that it was more mainstream than their previous sound by any means!.
Point is they're a good punk/poppy band that makes good punk/poppy music and I have nothing against them at any period of their career!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ive never been a big Green Day fan, but I would say I definitely prefer PRE American Idiot Green Day!. They had more of a punk sound in their early days and started putting a couple of "Good Riddance" songs on their albums as time went on!.
I never saw them as punk!.!.!.!.or "sell outs"!.!.!.!.AND Good Riddance was a great song, but I prefer their music when it is punk-ish!.
I saw them in concert on the American Idiot tour in Seattle!.!.!.!.!.it was a hell of a show! They are really good live, I will give that to them!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

im a bit suprised, i usually hear the opposite lately!.
i think that it's actually cool if you're the only one in your friends who likes them, that's the position im in!. i used to hate it, but there's a point where you've gotta say "you like what you like, and i like what i like!. you should have enough respect for me to not get on me about something i care about"!. and leave it at that!.

old green day owns: 1039/smoothed-out slappy hours, kerplunk, etc! those were the times of a revolution and they're not ment to be forgotten! embrace it!
your friends also may not like the older green day because they haven't heard as much of it!. Not many people these days listen to pre-american idiot things and when they do hear it, the style is so different that they automatically reject it!.

They dislike that album!.
Their sound completely changed, and American Idiot went extremely mainstream and commercialized!. So if people you know like that album and nothing that came beforehand, then they're just following the mainstream!.
