You can blame the grunge scene of the 1990's for the state of Rock monotony and unoriginality!. The 80's had taken guitar, drums, and bass to it's greatest musical heights and the 1990's set it back so far and so basic that Hip Hop and bubblegum took over the music scene!.

I think you could probably blame the first bands after grunge died or even grunge itself!. I think you can probably trace the flip to one album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness!. Even though this album is classic and is one of the best rock albums made in the 90's, it seems like everything mainstream after it either went punk (the predecessor to Emo), or softer poppier rock!. There were some exceptions, but the music went down hill after that!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Nirvana, kinda!. I mean they have good music, but its a lot simpler than the previous!. And bands started playing simpler and simpler music while adding cheesy effects until it became what it is now i guessWww@Enter-QA@Com
