Contrary to what Victor would have us believe!.!. Greatest Hits compilations are NOT "always somebody else's idea of a bands best material"!. Sometimes the band members or performers oversee what ends up on these compilations!. "Decade" from Neil Young and "The Story of the Clash, Vol!. 1 " from The Clash are great examples!. Early on in my exploration of music, greatest hits collections were a good way for me to get to know a band or performer and see if I wanted to delve further into their music!. The first record I ever bought was The Rolling Stones "Hot Rocks" collection, followed soon after by The Who's "Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy"!. I also ended up buying David Bowie's "Changes" (Vol!. I & II), Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Chronicle", and others!. There's no shame in it, and hating greatest hits collections doesn't make you some sort of a rock purist or expert!. Anyway, you asked for one collection that I would call my favorite, and I'll say!.!.!.
