Nicole,
If I were a beginner I'd go with a Lanikai LU-21C or 21T from http://www!.musiciansfriend!.com/navigatio!.!.!. Both are nato wood with gear tuners!. Gear tuners, like those on a guitar, are a must for novice ukesters!. A lot easier to tune!. They are great starter ukuleles that will give you years of enjoyment for under $100!. You didn't put a price range in your question so that's why I'm recommending these ukuleles!. Of course there are more expensive ones, but either of these are what I'd recommend for starters!. Starters!? Yes, b/c eventually you'll buy another, then another, then another, etc!. My first uke is an Applause UAE-20!. I have the 148 mahogany also!. Great electric accoustic ukuleles!. I hook them up to a VOX Da5!. I also have a tenor Kamaka 6-string, Samick UK-70, and a few others and I've only been playing a few years!. Some folks have walls covered in ukuleles!. also, whichever ukulele you purchase, I'd make sure it had gear tuners and then put Aquila Nylgut strings on it!. http://stores!.ebay!.com/Musicguymics-Room!.!.!. has them at the best price!.
And get yourself a chromatic tuner!. http://cgi!.ebay!.com/CHERUB-UKULELE-MATE-!.!.!.

While I'm writing a book here's a little extra!. See if there's a ukulele club in your area at http://www!.ukuleleclubs!.com/ You'll find it very educational as well as fun playing in a group!.
But most of all!.!.!.!.have fun!

this girl has a cheap ukelele and it seems to work well for her!
I dont think it matters as much if you have a high end ukelele if you
are a good singer!.

I would try to ask her, since she is doing it so well (and she is all over Youtube)!.

I love her version of that song!.!.!.by the way!Www@Enter-QA@Com
