Advice for a beginning drummer!

Question: Advice for a beginning drummer
I want to be able to play drums, and I've been practicing with some drumsticks I found in my basement for about most of the summer (2 1/2 months) to get my wrists up!. I'm getting pretty good at it!. I played on an actual drum set yesterday and was pretty good but not that great!.

1!. How long would it take for me to get better & faster at the rate that I'm going!?

2!. What are some basic exercises that can help me!?

Thanks!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
1!.) You can't expect to be Bonham the first time you play the drums!. It sounds like you've been practicing lots, but it also sounds like you need to be more patient with yourself, too!. No one's going to be able to predict when and how much better you're going to be!. Just keep it up!. Make practicing a routine and plan ahead of time what you're going to practice!.

2!.) You should think about getting a practice pad (Vic Firth makes great ones, and sticks too) or a snare drum (I'd suggest Yamaha, Ludwig, Pearl, Sonor, and Remo drum head)!. You should think about getting formal training!. Take some lessons, if you can!. If you really want to stick with it, eventually you should think about getting a kit!.

Check out youtube videos for the beginning drummer!.!.!. there are tons!. They'll be a huge help as a visual to helping with your technique- which is super important!!! From the very basic "how to hold drum sticks!."

For stick control, reading music, rhythm, etc!. here's a great site (again, Vic Firth)- http://www!.vicfirth!.com/education/index!.!.!.!.

Now, for my biggest piece of advice!.!.!. RUDIMENTS!!!
Learn your 40 essential rudiments!. Watch the videos on the site I've just listed, starting with single stroke roll!. Play these rudiments at a speed you're comfortable at!.
These rudiments are so critical to every aspect of drumming!. You're going to need to know about the paradiddles, flams, single stroke rolls, doubles strokes, etc!.

also, a minor thing- you should start listening to and looking for the drum grooves, fills, timing, etc!. in songs, to start training your ear!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well i'd say just save up for a drum kit and practice on that or maybe get lessons!. since you have somewhat experience you'd probably learn fast
