What does the lead guitarist do all the time in a band?!

Question: What does the lead guitarist do all the time in a band!?
I am in a band and I am the vocalist and rhythm guitarist in that band!. But our lead guitarist, sometimes he gets angry because he has nothing to do!. Sometimes we don't even need lead guitar in all songs!. Can anyone tell me what can a lead guitarist do while I am singing but there is no need for lead guitar!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
The "lead guitarist" plays lead guitar! Which means that, if there is guitar playing in the song, he is the one playing it! If you are playing Rhythym and leaving him without anything to play, you are outside of your job description almost by definition!.

Leave the guitar work to him while you play fills and compliment the bass!.!.!.!.noone says you cant solo once in a while, but that is usually the lead guitarist's duty also!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

If there isn't a solo in the song, you can both play the same part!. Try doing one clean and one with effects, using different effects to play the song, or using the same effects at different levels!. Or you could try changing the songs slightly- add a second guitar part to create melody, create layered pieces, two guitars can sound really good together!. One of my favorite bands, Sleater-Kinney uses two guitars and no bass!. So maybe the lead guitarist could use a different tuning, or maybe a more baritone kind of sound!. You might not want to do this, but if they play anything else, you can use additional instruments to make the song more interesting!. I've seen guitarists who switch between guitar and keyboard while still having a guitar strapped on!. Just a suggestion!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

well as a lead guitar he should be playing lead!. of coarse!. but basicly if he feals unwanted in a part then he isnt doing everything he should be!. there is a diff between playing a solo and playing a lead!. if he wants to do a riff over your stuff then that would bee kool!. also if he wants to do a harmonizing guitar part to compliment your parts that would really set of your performance!. for instance if you are playing something have him harmonize using diff intervals!. personally i like to use thirds!. so basicly as a short answer if their is no need for a lead guitar tell him to double up on rythm guitar!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

There is ALWAYS need for lead guitar!. Your guitarist should almost always be playing guitar during a song!. If a song has only one guitar in it, it should be lead, not rhythm!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

make some creative lead riffs or just double the rythm guitar!. two guitars playign the same thing at the same time with mabey about 1/4 of an inch time delay on the second one sounds amazing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
