Question: Can a classical music pianist competently play keyboards in a rock&roll band or be totally lost musically!?

In my experience, classical pianists are very regimented, and read their notes, and follow structure!. In a Rock 'N Roll situation, you have to feel the music and be able to work with your other musicians!. You may know what a C Major chord is, but in the rock and roll world it has to fit, and you have to think on your feet at all times!. Can you do that!?Www@Enter-QA@Com
Well I think a classical background would be a great asset to them if they have the knowledge of theory and all that to back you up!. Lots of rock guitarists are trained for classical guitar too, like Randy Rhoads took classical guitar lessons, plus classical is a big influence on the shred style of guitar playing!. I don't think it would be a setback, certainly more helpful than having no musical experience or piano/keys experience at all!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I dont see why not!. Amy Lee is a great example of that( well she actually doesnt play keys she plays piano and you can play rock on a regular piano)!. If they are actually trained and a good musician they will be able to adapt but they will just have to get used to the feeling of a keyboard because a keyboard has a lighter touch to it!. Classically trained pianists play R and R to relax!. It gives them a break from playing pieces which typically are much more difficult to play!.
