That is a salute to one of Pink Floyds mentors, IRON BUTTERFLY, considered the first Heavy Metal BandWww@Enter-QA@Com

Well, symbolism is all about what you make it out to be!. The song clip you gave *is* "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun!." But as far as I can remember, butterflies were never popular images with Floyd, although flying certainly was!. I'd say it's probably something along those lines, if it means anything at all (which I, personally, doubt it does)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

as far as i know there is no meaning for it!. i think its just a shirt with a butterfly that he wanted to wear!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

LOL Its on my Netflix Queue right now!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Interesting question!. At this point in Pink Floyds career they were still a struggling band trying to make it into a bigger spotlight!. The film was made it October of 1971 and they were simply approached by film maker Adrian Mabey with a totally different idea, nonetheless that initial idea evolved into them playing at Pompeii!. The band simply packed their suitcases with their normal everyday clothes for the five day trip!. What's truly unfortunate is that they only got two days instead of five to make the film due to electrical problems or else there would be many more songs included!.

The most logical theory would be that a year later they finished and polished some of the songs later in a studio and the band may have been told to wear the same outfits they originally had on that particular day of filming so it appeared seemless to the viewer that they had recorded it all in one take to give it the live concert appeal!. Nick Mason possibly didn't have the exact shirt but one extremely similar!. David Gilmour has actually commented on Pink Floyds mystique saying that he never understood why people looked so deeply into them as a band and their music!. By their own omission, they were four guys trying to make music that was interesting, but even more, they simply wanted to be rich and famous!. Costumes and wardrobes were most likely the last thing on their mind!. If they wanted people to notice what they were wearing they probably wouldn't have focused so much on their spectacular stage productions!. A more interesting question would be why did (and still does) Roger Waters only wear all black at every single gig!? Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hi, here's the thing, it might mean something it might not, I honestly don't know!. However have You considered that Drumming is hard work and they knew, of course, that they were being filmed so maybe He changed shirts cause the first one got sweaty!? I'm not saying it doesn't mean anything just that there could be any number of possible explanations for it!.For another thing, Pink Floyd absolutely loves symbolism, if He was trying to say something by the shirts I'd almost guarantee You the only way to find out what it was would be to ask Him, and I'd have no clue how to do that!. A good place to start would probably be Google searching His name to see if he has a Fan Website or something of the like!. In any case good luck,Www@Enter-QA@Com

It could mean several things!.!.I know that his shirt in the video became somewhat famous, with everyone wanting that particular shirt!. I found this thumbing thru some Floyd archives, this may be where the butterfly comes into play!.

"A Saucerful Of Secrets", the title track, is far from a collection of strange noises followed by mellow organ music!. This track is the concept!. It begins with unorganised chaos, very ugly to listen to, very annoying and irritating!. Then a transformation occurs!. A metamorphosis if you will, into a mellow, beautiful soundscape, which builds up to a point that lifts the soul upwards and away!.!.!. This song is about the life of a butterfly!. From destructive, ugly, caterpillar, to a beautiful butterfly!. Once trapped on the ground, hated by all, now flies free upon the breeze, to be appreciated and admired by everyone

Floyd also recorded a song in 64 or 65 called Butterfly!. It was never released but could be the source!.!.I think it has to do with Saucerful of Secrets!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
