see if anybody you know is having a party and see if you can play there
also check out schools to see if there will be any back-to-school carnival type things!. i found a great band by going to one of those by me
if you think that those arent good for your band, or you really want to go out there and take a leap, meet people who work at music venues near you and see if they do anything like "local music you should know" or whatever!.

teenagers - an under 18s club or bar of your genre - rock/indie
adults - pubs,bars, clubs, restaurants
