Answers:
Look, Rap and HipHop go hand in hand!.!.!.Krs-One said it best, when he said "Rap is something you do, HipHop is something you live"!. Now that we got that out the way, I'll address your question!.

Firstly, you've portayed yourself as someone very ignorant, by stating that you hate the "Rap" genre, because the message is so negative!. Firstly, have you listened to ALL Rap songs!? Have you listened to ALL artists!? Secondly, it seems you're stereotyping a whole genre, upon a select few, but nevertheless popular, artists, and their songs, for example, perhaps you listened to some 50 cent songs and heard him glorifying drugs and violence!. This unfortunately does happen, and IS a negative message!.

However!.!.!.

There are so many other artists who, unfortunately, are not heard by the masses, and spread very positive messages!. A prime example would be of Mos Def or Talib Kweli!. Both these artists spread a very positive message(s), in a very articulate and lyrical manner, however, as stated before, both of these artists are not that famous in the mainstream, and those who haven't searched within the fine genre that is Rap/HipHop will probably have never heard of them, you being one of them, i would think, (forgive me if im wrong)!.

Other rappers include the legendary 2pac!. Listen to the song "Brenda's got a baby", tell me if you think that the particular "message" behind the lyrics is negative!. Again however, 2Pac led a "gangster's" life, and in the media, as well as through other songs, he is seen as a negative influence!.

Braille is another, virtually unknown Rap/HipHop artist, who has some of the most positive messages I've heard, ranging from trying to raise people's awarness regarding the environment, to the rising crime rates among youths!.

The point I'm trying to make, is that you have to search DEEP within the genre of Rap/HipHop, in order to really discover artists who spread positive messages, instead of all that "gangsta" sh*t all over MTV and the radio!. This is quite a sad fact, but unfortunately, the masses prefer to listen to glorified gangsters, than to artists who spread positive messages and use deep meaningful lyrics, eg!. talib kweli et al!.

Hope i've given you enough Food for thought!.!.

EDIT: I forgot to name a track, by my favourite group of all time, which is extremely positive, in particular, it raises awareness regarding slave and child labour in china!. It's called "shadow business" by the Jedi Mind Tricks!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hip hop reflects society, so if you don't like what artists are saying maybe you should look to politians to make some changes in lower class communities!. Sitting back and being a complete judgemental asshole doesnt help anyone!.

Hip Hop is a lifestyle and Rap is a from of music!. That's like saying Rock is different from Roll!. Jackass!. When you sit there and try to say there's some big philosophical difference between the two, you only expose your stupidity!.

Well then that is a different story!. Most people in this section would agree that the forefathers of Hip Hop are better than the current artists!. You are absolutely correct!.

People come in and bash this section everyday, so yes; we are defensive!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

dont listen to mainstream stuff!. it sounds like no offense but your alread predjudiced to this conversation and little we say will change your opinion!.

if your listenin to 50cent then thats equivalent to listenin to hilary duff or miley cyrus!. a quck hit but no meaning!. Listen to wyclef Jean or common then there you go poitive rap!. even the game, lil wayne!.luda and other "negative rappers" have some "positive songs" you just have to look, listen and pay attention!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

UR STUPID IF U THINK THAT EVERY RAP SONG IS NEGATIVE!.!.!.but the bottom line is it just is not YOUR kind of music!.!.!.thats fine******Www@Enter-QA@Com

If you can't name every rapper and every rap song, then you can't say that THE ENTIRE GENRE IS NEGATIVE!. If you want good stuff, look for the right artists and don't listen to the radio!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I suppose you listened to mainstream!? I can disprove this post, but what would I gain from it, what would you gain from reading my answer!? It's your opinion, I don't support your opinion, but I'm not going to try to change your opinion!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I have heard positive rap such as Brenda's got a baby ,Be a father to your child, Slow down, Self destruction etc, but lately nothing good I could tell you about it does display alot of the inner city's struggles and basically gives people who are not in the hood a good look at reality in a dog eat dog world of drugs crime and sex !.!.!.!.!.TUPAC was a genius he just changed it all up when gangster rap came on the scene and he went to death row rap used to be fun and crazy but now it s all about what you got or just 2verses and a nice background trackWww@Enter-QA@Com

Are you implying that your dislike of Rap discredits the positive influence that it has had!? I get it!.!.your tastes and what you and/or your peers deem as positive negates how the rest of us should feel about music!.

1!. Music is not designed to be socially responsible or have influences on society!.
2!. When Ozzy was biting off the heads of bats, did it have a positive influence!?
3!. Any artform has negative deviations, the negative is given more attention but does correctly reflect the artform as a whole!. There are so many positive rappers that someone like you probably hasn't heard of, because positivity is unpopular in today's society, especially as it pertains to any minority-related activity!.

Edit: You probably received so many negative responses because of the nature of your question!. People are offended when they are made to feel as if they must defend something that is as personal to them as music!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Sure!. Listen to a rap CD!. Obviously you are a sheltered white guy with those comments!. But the lyrics talk about a way of life that you are lucky to have avoided!. I've learned a lot about black problems with poverty and violence from rap music!. And education is a contribution to society!.
Like NAS said on the Colbert Report, stop wondering why black people rap about guns, and instead wonder how the guns wind up in black neighborhoods!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Look at it this way, when Public Enemy put out their records(Fight the Power being one of the most famous), it inspired people to stand up and fight against the injustice and racism that plagued the US at the time!. 2Pac's song Changes inspires people to examine their own lives and make changes for the better!. Rap music has the power to move the masses like no other form of music, and it has and continues to inspire people more so than anything else!.

also, rap music started as a reflection of the society that blacks were forced in to by absurd government polices(redlining being one of the most common practices), and a lot of rap music still retains that quality!. Let me ask you a question, many religions spread a message of intolerance, and the bible contains many misogynistic and violent images, why arent you calling them out for it!? TV and movies spread equally negative messages, do you not enjoy them!? Dont point the finger at rap music because its an easy target, learn about the circumstances that influence the message that comes out before you make rash judgments!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ok, first off, hip hop is a movement made up of 5 elements: DJing, breakdancing, grafitti, rap and beatboxing!. Rap is a part of hip hop, not a seperate thing!.

The whole origins of hip hop are positive!. It was about getting kids off the streets and away from crime and violence and having them channel their energies into a more creative outlet!. That's why battling is so ingrained in hip hop culture - it's a way of dealing with any issues you have with a person peacefully!.

Check out Afrika Bambaataa and the formation of the Zulu Nation and KRS-One's Stop The Violence movement!.

also, don't assume that what you hear on MTV represents all hip hop!. Far, far from it!. The irony is that most hip hop fans hate that stuff more than anyone else!.

Listen to some artists like

Common
KRS-One
Public Enemy
Talib Kweli
Blackalicious
Sage Francis
Brother Ali
Dead Prez
Jean Grae

Actually, it's a pretty endless list!. I don't really think from the way you're talking that you have enough knowledge of hip hop to make such a sweeping statement!. Hopefully you'll listen to some of the artists here and give it another chance!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

To be honest, RAP hasn't really had much positive influence on society, in fact, it's done little more than perpetuate the idea that inner city minorities are concerned with nothing but gang wars, drugs, and slappin' hoes (etc!.)!. Rap is an idiotic form of music marketed for people who can't appreciate any intellectual commentary whatsoever, and don't understand that this type of music has much more potential than just to talk about how many bitches a guy is with or how many gats his homies have!. Hip-hop--contrary to popular belief--is a completely seperate form of music, and an amazing one at that!. Hip-hop has the power to inform and create, rather than condone ingnorance and outdated ideas!. Those of the hip-hop demographic aren't base enough to consider their music to be "rap," and therefore have the ability and the strength of mind to change the world!. Two words: Immoral Technique!. Someone posted a good point before me, that for music that might actually have an affect on society, the radio is the wrong place to turn, and I guess that's more or less exactly what I mean, that is the dividing line (with some ambiguation, but not much)!. The crap on the radio is nothing more than white America's idea of what black or "urban" music should sound like, and it is a comment on the idiots who promote this type of nonsense to reach the ears of its listeners, rather than those who produce the music itself!. How sad, that intellectual advocation has fallen so short in our ha-ha "progressive" society!. So, screw RAP, the real **** is underground anyway!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Common ft!. Laury hill- Stay: talks about abortion and not having safe sex
Tupac Shakur-changes life itself
Ohmega Watts-mind power: relationships with people such as women falling for the bad boy type and staying or women in a relationship just for the money and glamorous lifestyle!.
Lupe Fiasco-He Say She Say: a child raised by his mother and father is not in the picture!.
Jean Grae- God's Gift: perspective of some men , thinking they are God's gift to women and how some men are not a one woman man!.
Grandmaster Flash- The Messsage: growing up in the ghetto, the negative influences from some people!.
Eminem-Sing For the Moment: media portrays you in a negative light only, his personal short clip of his life, and mind thoughts of many teenagers and broken homes/lives!.
Talib Kweli-Hot Thing: his love for his girl, portrayed in a sexy but very classy way, no cursing or degrading view!.
Lupe Fiasco-Streets On Fire:HIV, rap has now become a diesease and a business in a metaphoric sense!.
Aesop Rock-No Regrets:Lucy lives her life as an artist and nothing else!. Most people have dreams but don't pursue it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

its positive because they make real music from da heart!.!.!.they express ther feelings and anger!.!.they rap about what they hav been trueWww@Enter-QA@Com

In both the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections, NOBODY put forth more effort to get young people to vote than Puffy and Russell Simmons!. Even though the 25 and under crowd were virtually ignored during both races, this was the very group targeted by the Rock the Vote campaign!. Now, in this year's race, you actually see both candidates perking up and surveying YOUNG voters' concerns!. Voter registration among young people is the highest it's been in decades!. When everyone else was ignoring them, it was the rap community that stood up and said young voters have a voice, too!.

And, I will say once again!.!.!.if negative rap is all you can find, it's because that's all you're paying attention to!. There is plenty of uplifting, thought provoking rap music available!. You just aren't going to find it on TRL or 106 & Park!. I challenge you to listen to Talib Kweli and tell me the messages he's espousing are negative!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
