Just how dead is heavy metal music?!

Question: Just how dead is heavy metal music!?
I was born in 1983, and I love metal!. My collection spans over 3 decades, from Black Sabbath's 1970 Paranoid album to Slayer's 1986 Reign in Blood to Warbringer's 2008 War Without End!. I love all genres of hard rock and heavy metal, from Led Zeppelin to Ac/Dc to Diamond Head, and Iron Maiden, and death metal greats like Death and Suffocation!.
I give you that portent into my background just so you understand how much I love metal, and how many hours I've spent researching, listening, expanding my knowledge thereof!.

Here's my question really: Has heavy metal overstayed its welcome!? I personally find less and less new bands that are interesting as I get older, and newer bands just sound like rehashed ideas of a band that did some great music 15-20 years before them!. What is this generation's Beatles!? Does heavy metal have a future, or is it out of ideas until new ways of creating music come along!?

P!.S!. - If you mention Trivium, I will castrate you promptly!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i am not a fan but it is not dead!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think that "heavy metal" music is necessarily "dead" - it has just evolved!.

In the era that fans bought bands (I remember buying every Van Halen album the day it came out and not ever listening to see if I liked any of the songs - I knew I would), the bands created ALBUMS!. Now days, the bands are looking for the one big hit, and damn the rest of the album - that is just filler!. They look to have one or two good singles, and sell a ton of albums, and then move on!. If you look at the bands now days, very few stay around past a few years, unlike the bands around before, where they were around for 10, 15 years or more!.

Heavy metal will be around as long as there are fans to listen!. I don't listen to popular radio any longer, so the music I hear are timeless, and in my world, Steven Tyler is still belting out "Walk this Way" like he did 30-some years before!. And I have my Metallica, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Beatles, Pink Floyd (etc!.) on cd, so I can live in the world of heavy metal forever!. Who cares if the masses listen to it!? They are listening to the likes of Miley Cyrus and Ashlee Simpson - how much taste can they really have!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Heavy metal is far from dead as I have come to find from my pre-teen and teenage children and niese and nephew!. I am amazed at their range of choices, though deeply saddened that they can't see past genres!. You know it's this and this or nothing like metal and emo, but they would never subject themselves to Bach or Mozart or the Beatles for that matter "oh how lame"!. I would probably never have been tuned in either had it not been for the biggest metal head I knew in high school!.!.!.Classical music how rebelious is that!?!?!? "Thanks Ray"Www@Enter-QA@Com

"Heavy" Metal has moved over!.!.!. finding good modern metal bands, you have to look past the mainstream!.

Because that **** DragonForce, and Disturbed, and crap like that is actually labeled as Metal!.
That stuff is more like hard rock!.

Now when someone thinks of metal, they think of fast riffs, and guitar harmonies!.

When I think of true metal, I think of kickass fast drums, over-distorted guitars, !.!.!. and none of this down-tuned power-chord crap!. (because it seems all modern metal bands use Drop C)

REAL metal, like death metal kind of stuff,
you have to search far and wide haha
like !.!.!. Lamb Of God, Mastadon, and guys like that!.

RE: Additional Details:
THATS exactly what I mean, the sheer hate and intensity, and face melting has died!.
I mean, bands like Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Quiet Roit, stuff like that!.!.!. the kickass-factor has left!.

Now its all about who has the coolest guitar+double bass syncopated beat!.!.!. and who tunes their guitar the lowest!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Classic metal is definitely dying, unfortunately nu metal is taking its place!. There used to be some great metal bands, but there are fewer these days!.

Heres my prophetic guess into the future: There is a lot of music that is beginning to resurface, style-wise at least, that, along with the emergence of music based games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, might bring metal back!.

I know of one classic metal band which is still alive and kicking, DIO! Started when Ronnie James Dio left Black Sabbath, and made some great music!. Dio broke late 80's early 90's but has reformed late 90's to bring us back some of that classic metal!. I even got the very rare chance to see them live on their last tour, their first tour date in 2 years, with very few stops, and I'll inform you that Ronnie still has that amazing voice, and the rest of the band are killer live too!.

Two new bands which look promising in metals future are Black Tide, who are very young, but still perform classic metal insanely good (even good enough to tour last Ozzfest and gain the fans of Ozzy as well as some of the other bands)!. The other band is called Airborne (I think), and the best way to describe them is to say that when I first heard them on the radio, I thought they were AC/DC!. They are almost indistinguishable from some of AC/DCs tunes, including their style!.

P!.S!. I'd just like to mention also that I'm from Birmingham, the home to both Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin!. Two of the greatest bands I've ever heard!.

P!. P!. S!. KEEP THE METAL ALIVE!Www@Enter-QA@Com
