Is this for your school!? Because in the US, most schools are closed for the summer!. The Idylle by Godard is a lovely, lyrical piece - but not at all difficult!. In NY, it is level 4 out of 6!. I would *think* that your audition committee would want to hear the broad scope of your technique, in something that has more rapid articulation, for example!.

Although I am not familiar with the Canadian grading system (are you Canadian!?), are you are they said 8th grade - and not GRADE 8!? Because I believe that would be significantly higher that what you are playing!. Until we know more about the orchestra for which you auditioning, we cannot give you more concrete advice!. If it is for you own school, then no problem!. And as a judge myself, I can pretty much tell in the first minute whether I want to hear any MORE from a student!. Write back with more info, please - I wish you much luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Auditions always made me nervous too!. The best defense is to be totally prepared!. Be able to play your piece in your sleep!. Play your piece for everyone in your house, if you have friends over, make them listen to you!. If your parents have visitors, perform for them!. The more you play in front of people, the easier it gets!.

Then try some deep breathing exercises as you wait for your turn to play!. Inhale to a count of 3, hold your breath for a count of 3 and then exhale for a count of 3!. As you focus on your breathing, your body will relax!.

Good luck and have fun!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Tips!.!.!.!.

1!.Pick a piece that is a little challenging for your level but not way too hard

2!. LOTS OF VIBRATO!!!

3!. Make it sound good with lots of feeling!.!. Make the judges enjoy your music!. Then you will get in for sure!.

Check out the symphony requirements!. If the symphony is any good you will usually have to play a movement from a solo flute concerto, a chromatic scale using the full range of the instrument, some scales and arpeggios, sight reading, and maybe even demonstrate double and triple tonguing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
